![]() ![]() ![]() I did love this book, but not as much as I thought I would. I was really excited to read this book, because Kerstin Gier’s Ruby Red trilogy is one of my favorite series. But what’s really scaring Liv is that the dream boys seem to know things about her in real life, things they couldn’t possibly know–unless they actually arein her dreams? Luckily, Liv never could resist a good mystery, and all four of those boys are pretty cute… They’re classmates from her new school in London, the school where she’s starting over because her mom has moved them to a new country (again). The strangest part is that Liv recognizes the boys in her dream. Especially the one where she’s in a graveyard at night, watching four boys conduct dark magic rituals. ![]() Yes, Liv’s dreams have been pretty weird lately. ![]() ![]() ![]() Using this concept, McConaughey looks back over his first 50 years and illustrates how some of his red lights turned green and how he has always kept his eyes open for the next green light. The idea though, is to look at how we see challenges in life, and how we respond to them, because that is up to the individual and that has everything to do with the outcome we get. ![]() It may be a matter of timing, perhaps we needed our attention drawn to something before we proceed, or maybe even a bit of a detour. McConaughey also talks about how sometimes we come to red lights or yellow lights, but these can ultimately become greenlights. We like finding a greenlight, though we recognise finding a greenlight is a combination of both skill and luck. The concept of Greenlights, and the origin of the title, is that greenlights tell us to continue along our path, both in traffic as well as in life. Lovers of a slow, Southern drawl will be in heaven. Nothing compares to McConaughey on McConaughey. My purchase of the audiobook may go down as the single greatest purchase of my life. ![]() At no more than ten to fifteen pages in, as much as I was already enjoying the book, I realised I needed to hear him tell this story. I received a copy of Greenlights included in the price of the ticket I purchased for a virtual Q&A between Matthew McConaughey and Ethan Hawke as one of the keynote events of the Texas Book Festival this year. ![]() ![]() Skeleton Motif: Cohort starships are covered in real, human bones. Not even sci-fi swords, just regular steel. Schizo Tech: The Cohort gets around aboard spacecraft capable of orbital bombardment and then lands troops who fight with swords. This may be related to the fact that the Nine Houses makes mass death their starting priority during any invasion, to give their necromancers thanergy to work with theirs or the enemy's, it doesn't really matter. The author shows that finance is, in fact, the foundation of human progress.
